Enjoying Your Vacation in Comfort with Home-Like Lodgings

You can plan the most luxurious and fun-filled vacation imaginable. However, if you fail to book comfortable hotel rooms, your entire trip away from home could be ruined by this one seemingly minor aspect of your journey. Rather than let your fun be dampened by uncomfortable and crowded hotel rooms, you can instead enjoy a more home-like atmosphere when you book lodgings designed for lengthier and more luxurious stays. With holiday apartments LA visitors like you can enjoy the rest of your vacation with the assurance that you can sleep well in a comfortable suite after a day of fun and sightseeing.

Enjoying Your Vacation in Comfort with Home-Like Lodgings

These larger homier suites can be ideal if you are traveling with your kids and some of your extended family. When you have small children with you, you must stick to a tight meal schedule. When the kids get hungry, you may not be able to find a place where you can eat that suites their young palates. Rather than risk the kids getting grumpy and cranky, you can instead fix them a semi-home cooked meal in your hotel suite. The suite comes with a kitchenette outfitted with a small range and microwave. There is also a refrigerator for storing milk, juice, and other cold groceries for children.

Likewise, when you have older family members with you, you also may need to adhere to strict meal plans. The older relatives might have specific health needs that prevents them from dining in a restaurant or grabbing a bite to eat at a roadside stand. When you want to know that your older loved ones will eat safe and high-quality meals, you can fix them a meal in the kitchenette area. You can also keep their insulin and medications in the refrigerator.

After a day out touring Los Angeles, you may be ready for a hot bath and some TV time. The hotel suite has towels and bath mats available for your personal use in the bathroom. You also can watch TV on your in-room set. The TV is hooked up to cable so you can watch movies or your regular programming. After you are done watching TV, you can also relax and sleep in one of the full size beds available in each suite. These amenities and comforts can add the ideal finishing touch to your family vacation to Los Angeles.

How to Get People to Go Winter Backpacking With You

Dying to get out into the wilderness, but can’t find any pals willing to hike and camp when there’s snow on the ground? Unless you’re lucky enough to have a backpacking-lover like Max Gorin in your close circle of friends, you’ll have to get crafty when appealing to their adventurous side. Follow these tips for encouraging your friends (or acquaintances) to hit the dirt – err, ice – road with you before the spring rolls around. Don’t dismay – you’re bound to find at least one person who’s willing to give it a whirl.

How to Get People to Go Winter Backpacking With You

1. Explain that winter camping is very different alone vs. with someone. When you’re by yourself, the short days and long spans of darkness can make you feel really lonely. Together, though, that just means having more time in the evening to trade hilarious stories. They may be picturing the horror of a solo venture, but remind them that you’ll be there!

2. Ask your wildest, craziest friend to join you. Even if they hate hiking – and winter – the appeal of doing something nuts may be enough to get them on board. When that fails, taunt them a bit – they’re not scared, are they?! If you know someone who’s always down for adventure, even better – they probably won’t blink at the suggestion of camping during the coldest season of the year.

3. Appeal to your friend who’s really into fitness. If they’ve never done more than a gym session during the winter, tell them that trying something new will probably work out new muscles. Plus, there’s no complete body workout quite like hiking in snowshoes, not to mention that they can eat more than usual because they’ll burn way more calories than they could on the treadmill.

4. If you think that your quiet pal isn’t a good match for a long hiking trip, think again – if he doesn’t talk much regularly, he probably won’t complain that much while on the trail. Plus, you may get closer friendship-wise since you’ll be in a setting that encourages conversation.

5. You may know someone’s who’s turned off to the idea of hiking because they had a bad springtime or summer experience. Let them know that during the winter, those overcrowded, littered trails are pristine. You’ll be lucky if you see a trace of a person, let alone run into someone else. Plus, a lot of campsites that are overrun in the warm months are available during the winter.

6. Play up the drawbacks. Melting snow for water is a skill most people will never pick up. Digging a barrier to keep wind away from your tent is so much like playing in the snow as a kid. After setting up camp for the night, there’ll be plenty of time to have a snowball fight.

7. If you know someone who’s looking to kick their workout regime and eating habits in the rear, talk to them about how much of a calorie-scorcher wintertime hiking is. Bonus: You can eat practically whatever you want because you’ll be burning the calories off anyway.

Your hiking companions will thank you afterward – winter backpacking is seriously rewarding. Or, at the very least, they’ll have a crazy story to tell their kids some day!

Peter Island: Perfect Honeymoon Destination for Couples

Peter Island: Perfect Honeymoon Destination for Couples

After spending months planning the wedding of your dreams, the last thing couples need to do is spend a lot of time worrying about and arranging a honeymoon. And after the rush of a wedding weekend, days and nights on a balmy beach, massages and hot baths overlooking crystal clear blue water, and five-star dining is just what the wedding fairies order.

The Peter Island Resort in the British Virgin Islands offers all of these amenities and more in a package that takes all of the planning off of your hands. Upon arriving in Tortola, after leaving customs, you are greeted by a friendly representative of the resort who directs your bags to be picked up to by a cab which ferrets you over to Peter Island’s ferry – one of several – for a thirty-minute guided tour of the BVIs (as the British Virgin Islands are referred to by locals) before you dock on the shore of Peter Island.

Perfect Honeymoon Destination for Couples

The warm, friendly staff will whisk away your bags once you arrive, and offer to either take you on a quick tour of the island (by golf cart of course), or take you directly to your room to change and relax. Once you do get to your room – if you’re staying in one of the well-appointed suites overlooking the white sand beach, you’ll find a warm, high-ceiling room, with doors opening out to a balcony. The dark paneled room is lit up by the large windows and by the tropical colored pillows along the bed and couch. The large bathrooms come fitted with a large spa bath and a double-headed shower — to make sure you’re extra clean of course.

All food is included with the price of the resort fee, and you definitely get your money’s worth. From high-brow seafood and steak dishes, to the Caribbean classic conch fritter, you will not go hungry. Alcohol drinks are extra, and easy to order plenty of as you can quite easily put all charges on your room. The several bars are well stocked with an impressive wine list and the requisite tropical drinks. Be sure not to miss the BBC (Banana Bailey’s Colada). One evening, the resort held a vintner’s dinner, hosted by a local wine importer. He was quite knowledgeable, impressing some of the seasoned guests with his wine knowledge, and giving a lecture on French wines without coming off as lecturing. The wine likely helped.

The activities and amenities at Peter Island are tremendous. Included with your resort fee are snorkeling equipment, other water sports, some sailing equipment, tennis court and rackets, as well as access to beautiful private and semi-private beaches, Honeymoon Beach and White Bay Beach. Make sure to get a picnic lunch packed for you, complete with wine, for an even more enjoyable beach visit. Peter Island will also arrange excursions for you, like snorkeling trips to The Indians, where you can see barracuda, ray sharks and turtles just feet below the surface; shopping trips to Tortola and sailing trips to other British Virgin Islands to visit the Baths on Virgin Gorda and the world famous, water-access only Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke.

And finally, no visit to Peter Island would be complete without a visit to their spa. Make sure to book appointments in advance of your visit as they fill up quickly. And set aside enough time so you can while away at least half a day at the spa. Not only do they offer a tremendous amount of spa services like couples massages, reiki and yoga, but they have a spectacular infinity pool and hot tub overlooking one of the many shorelines of Peter Island.

Peter Island, and all of the Virgin Islands, rank as some of the most beautiful beaches and islands in all the world. All adventure and beauty seekers owe themselves a visit there. You will not be disappointed.

Jekyll Island : The Millionaires’ Playground

Jekyll Island: The Millionaires’ Playground

In 1886, a group of millionaires that included the Morgans, Astors, Cranes, and Rockefellers formed the Jekyll Island Club and built the lavish Clubhouse that is now The Jekyll Island Hotel. The sixty room Clubhouse was designed and built by Charles Alexander on Jekyll Island, GA. The first condominiums that were built in America was built on the island in 1896 and were called San Souci.

Jekyll Island
The club expanded and in 1901 they built an annex to the hotel to meet their needs. Some of the members built their own private houses during the time period of 1888 to 1928. These houses gave them more room to entertain their guests. Many of the houses have now been restored and guests can stay there. Some have cafés that have been opened for the use of Jekyll Island guests.

Jekyll Island became home to the first golf course in 1898. Later the resort grew to include a swimming pool, marina, croquet lawns, and tennis courts. It was truly a millionaire’s play ground.

The Club became smaller during the Depression and the government asked the remaining members not to use the island until World War II ended. That was the end of the Jekyll Island Club. The members never used it again and the state of Georgia bought the island in 1947. The state did their best to keep it open as a hotel until 1972. The Jekyll Island Club’s 240 acres was named a National Historic Landmark in 1978. Twenty million dollars was spent to restore the grand Victorian hotel. It reopened in 1985.

The Jekyll Island Club Hotel now includes the Clubhouse, San Souci, and the Annex. There are 157 guest rooms with different historical settings. There are balconies and fireplaces in many of the rooms. The rooms in the Clubhouse have either a king size or a double bed. The rooms in the cottages have Jacuzzis and some have two double beds. The rooms that have the two double beds are deluxe rooms that are bigger and include a sitting area or a desk. All the rooms include cable TV, an in-room safe, newspaper delivery, iron and ironing board, alarm clock, hair dryer, and a coffee pot.

There are recreational activities to suit everyone. The activities include horseback riding, tennis, golf, and water sports. There is a heated pool for swimming and private beach cabanas. The Club Hotel also offers carriage rides around the village and tours of the island.

Hotel guests can choose from an American plan that offers three full meals everyday or the modified American plant that includes breakfast and dinner daily. Entire cottages can be rented for special events such as weddings or family reunions.

Visiting Jekyll Island is like taking a walk back in time. The grandeur of the millionaires’ village has been brought back to Jekyll Island. The Victorian décor adds a touch of romance from the past. If those walls could talk, they would have some stories to tell.
